Spring/Summer 08 Key Trends
It's colour, colour and more colour, in a rainbow-beating plethora of vivid hues that really sums up the new season's mood. Add to that a flower show full of blooms, decorating Summer dresses, shirts, skirts and shorts and you're starting to get the feel of it. It's all about femininity (well nearly all) and the season's new nipped-in waist and full-skirted silhouette reinforces that.
She's Like a Rainbow
This season, the future's so bright, you gotta wear shades. There's a riot of vibrant hues headed your way as designers turn up the colour dial (to eleven!). Just about every Spring/Summer show featured shocking brights, either alone or in a fabulous technicoloured clash.
Alexander McQueen, in one of his best shows for years, sent out what could well become the dress of the season, a beautiful, floor-sweeping, feather-print gown in just about every colour of the spectrum.
He's not alone, it's going to be a good season for dresses, especially if you like them in super-hot cerise. In an otherwise quite muted collection this pop of pink satin at Burberry Prorsum was like a jolt in the arm and set the tone for a colour-infused Summer.
And not to be left in the shade, at Lanvin Alber Elbaz created an explosion of colour mid-show that sent the assembled editors and buyers into a fashion frenzy. Three light-as-a-feather, floor-length fluid dresses, each in its own vivid hue, swished out to a standing ovation. Need we say more?
